The Business School is home to The Atom—Te Kahu o Te Ao innovation space, a place for students to start their entrepreneurial journeys and to get advice and support from entrepreneurs who have done it all before.

Wellington School of Business and Government works with students, start-ups, and established business leaders to support and equip the next generation of New Zealand entrepreneurs to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Prospective entrepreneurs: we work with individuals across various life stages interested in pursuing entrepreneurship. We offer courses, mentorship, events, facilities, and networking opportunities.
Businesses: we work with private and public sector organisations and businesses to support their growth through innovative research and courses that can guide their strategy and develop their people.
The Atom— Te Kahu o Te Ao innovation space
The Atom—Te Kahu o Te Ao innovation space is a co-working space located at our campus in the heart of Wellington’s CBD. The Atom provides a place for student businesses to base themselves as well as receive advice and support from Wellington School of Business and Government’s academics and established entrepreneurs who have done it all before. Wellington School of Business and Government offers a variety of courses that teach students vital skills as well as how to consider opportunities and challenges from an entrepreneurial perspective.
SME Internationalisation (IBUS 205)
- Gain a theoretical and practical understanding of issues faced by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) going international.
Entrepreneurship (MGMT 307)
- Learn how to generate value by seizing opportunities to solve commercial, social, environmental, or civic problems.
Organisational Innovation and Change (MGMT 317)
- Lead a global team of eight participants from around the world in a social entrepreneurship challenge and gain insights on innovative venture and product development.
Intellectual Property and Business Innovation (COML321)
- Learn the key legal principles relating to intellectual property, and how these relate to innovation and entrepreneurship.
Digital Business Innovation (INFO334)
- How to turn ideas into digital business ventures.
Entrepreneurial Finance (FINA 352)
- How to finance and manage the development of early stage ventures and startups
Innovations in Public Policy (PUBL 310)
- Explore modern theoretical thinking on policy and collaborative governance arrangements.
Entrepreneur Bootcamp (vicbootcamp.co.nz)
The bootcamp is a 12-week part-time programme where student teams seek to accelerate their business or social venture ideas. Successful applicants receive funding, mentoring, access to venture capital providers, and can apply at the end of the programme to base their company in The Atom.)
This year we are looking to put an increased emphasis on indigenous entrepreneurship, and explore how tikanga Maori values can inspire new, sustainable approaches to innovation. We are also looking to expand our network of national and international partners.

We believe Wellington is one of the best cities in the world to be an entrepreneurial student. Wellington School of Business and Government’s location at the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant and innovative capital cities, puts our students right at the intersection of leading public and private sector influencers and a short walk or scooter ride from organisations like Xero, Mojo, Callaghan Innovation, NZTE, Garage Project, Weta Workshop, TradeMe and MBIE.
Our students and alumni benefit from the entrepreneurial ecosystem created by this proximity as they seek to launch new ideas and ventures. Our job is to help grow that community, share the stories of its members, and inspire new generations of New Zealand innovators.
