In the final of a four part series celebrating the inaugural Auckland Startup Week happening 20-24 October 2025, Richard Liew talks with Marissa Brindley, Head of Investment in the Economic Development Office of Auckland Council.
Auckland Startup Week is a five‑day festival of innovation taking place across central Auckland, bringing together founders, investors, corporates, researchers and ecosystem enablers for a rich programme of keynotes, workshops, pitch nights and networking events.
Under the banner “Leading from the edge of the world,” the event promotes Auckland as a globally connected innovation hub, showcasing local startups and thought leaders to a diverse audience.
The 2025 edition runs from 20 to 24 October, with venues spanning Pipiri Lane, GridAKL, Town Hall, and university precincts, hosting events like “Impactful Innovation ’25,” the Startup Expo, founders’ clinics, and pitch days.
The inaugural Auckland Startup Week aims to strengthen the region’s startup ecosystem by fostering connection, exchange and exposure. It is backed by Auckland Council along with universities, venture funds and innovation organisations, and many sessions are free or low cost to attend.
By spotlighting Māori innovation, deep tech, export pathways, scaling strategies, and founder wellness, it seeks not just to celebrate entrepreneurial success but to catalyse new collaboration and growth in New Zealand’s most populous region.
