Can you tell us a bit about your business?
Time and health are two of the most valued commodities of our time, but so often come at the expense of each other, and the environment.
Chia Sisters creates functional beverages that harness plant bioactives and nutrition for everyday health, and we do so in a way that has a positive impact on the planet. We operate out of our solar-powered juicery in Whakatu Nelson and are B Corp, Climate Positive and Zero Carbon certified.
To us health isn’t about what a product is free-from. It’s about what it is made-from. The ingredients in our formulations are clean, plant-based and refined sugar-free. But what distinguishes us are the micronutrients and bioactives in our drinks that directly contribute to health, and how those nutrients are absorbed by our body.
That is why, when you enjoy Chia Sisters, you feel the difference.
Our expertise in neuroscience, our innovation pipeline and our bespoke production facilities enables us to create, adapt, and respond at pace to lead food and beverage health trends.
What’s the backstory for your business idea?
In 2012 Chloe, a neuroscientist and medical herbalist with an interest in plant nutrition and bioactives, is inspired by her sister Florence; a corporate lawyer who is a New Zealand Champion Triathlete and their Dad, Ben, a World Champion Swimmer.
She created a range to fuel them, that was natural and good for their health. Chia Sisters was born. Soon it became clear that more than just athletes strive for health and nutrition to get the most out of every day.
What programmes, learning or mentoring have been of assistance so far?
As part of the SheEO network we had access to a one on one mentor. Beyond that we have approached businesses that inspire us and have learned from them.
