What do you need to start a global footwear brand selling in over 40 countries around the world? In the case of one caring Auckland father – just a $500 overdraft and zero experience.

When architect Chris Bennett lovingly hacked a pair of shoes for his 9 month old daughter back in 1991, little did he or his co-founder wife Colleen know that that would be the beginning of a business building journey that in 2021 entered its 30th year.

From the first handmade pairs sold in what used to be Auckland’s Victoria Park Market, in this interview Bennett reflects on the BOBUX footwear journey, sharing valuable founder insights with NZ Entrepreneur Editor, Richard Liew.

We also talk to BOBUX CEO, Andrew Sharp, and learn about their key to staying innovative  in a highly competitive market, how the company responded to the COVID-19 crisis, and the secrets to a successful founder – CEO partnership.
